Botanical Education Specialist
I help people understand Czech botanical heritage
Václav Novotný brings 16 years of expertise in plant taxonomy, garden management, and seasonal horticultural education across Prague’s leading botanical institutions.
The Beginning
How it started in a Prague garden
I wasn’t always a botanist. As a kid, I just loved being outside. My parents took me to the Prague Botanical Garden one spring afternoon, and something clicked. I spent hours that day studying plants — not because I had to, but because I genuinely wanted to know how they worked, why certain flowers bloomed in specific seasons, what made each species unique.
That childhood curiosity turned into something serious. I studied Plant Biology at Charles University’s Faculty of Science, completed my Master’s degree in 2008, and within months, I was working at the Prague Botanical Garden’s educational department. That’s where the real learning happened — not from textbooks, but from working directly with the plants, the seasons, and thousands of visitors who had their own questions.
Over the past 16 years, I’ve documented bloom cycles across all three major Czech botanical institutions. I’ve tracked how climate shifts affect flowering patterns, worked with horticulturists on conservation efforts, and written guides that actually help people plan meaningful visits. The work never gets boring. Every season brings new observations, new patterns to understand.
Now at Screenkidz, I’m focused on making botanical knowledge accessible. Real knowledge. Evidence-based articles about what you’ll actually see in these gardens, not just beautiful descriptions. Because I believe understanding the science deepens appreciation — and appreciation leads to conservation.
Professional Focus
What I specialize in
Deep expertise across botanical science, garden management, and horticultural education
Plant Taxonomy & Botany
Classification systems, species identification, and plant biology. I’ve spent thousands of hours studying specimens across Czech gardens to understand what makes each species distinct.
Seasonal Bloom Calendars
Tracking flowering patterns, understanding seasonal shifts, and predicting bloom times across different botanical locations. This is practical knowledge you can actually use.
Czech Botanical Institutions
Direct experience with Prague Botanical Garden, Průhonice Park, and Kroměříž Flower Garden. I know these spaces inside and out — the collections, the history, the best times to visit.
Educational Program Development
Creating effective learning experiences. I’ve led the Prague Botanical Garden’s public programs department and developed content that actually engages people.
Garden Management & Conservation
Horticultural practices, plant preservation, and sustainable garden operations. Working behind the scenes taught me what really goes into maintaining these spaces.

My Approach
How I work
Accuracy matters
Every bloom date, every plant name, every horticultural detail gets verified. I’ve spent 16 years building knowledge you can actually trust. No exaggeration, no guessing.
Science informs everything
I’m not just describing what plants look like. I explain the biology behind what you’re seeing — why flowers bloom when they do, how seasonal changes affect gardens, what conservation really means.
Accessibility is essential
Complex botanical knowledge doesn’t need complicated language. I write for people who want to understand gardens better — not just botanists. Clear, detailed, useful.
Conservation drives my work
Understanding nature deepens appreciation. When people know what they’re looking at and why it matters, they care more about protecting it. That’s the real goal.
“A person who truly understands a garden — the plants, the seasons, the ecology — becomes a guardian of that space. Education is conservation.”
